Arif Kurniawan is a young Indonesian writer from Bengkulu, who was selected for the Festival's 2024 Emerging Writers program. Born in 2001, he grew fond of literature after reading the works of Danarto, Pramoedya Ananta Toer, Ray Bradbury, and Jorge Luis Borges. He also draws inspiration from the cinematic masterpieces of Andrei Tarkovsky and Federico Fellini. Apart from writing, Arif is actively involved in Majelis Perenungan Tunggal. Some of his early works can be found online. In 2022, he represented Bengkulu at the National Student Arts Week and won a bronze medal with his short story titled Tato-Tato Penghapus Dosa.

Beberapa karya awalnya dapat ditemukan secara daring. Pada tahun 2022 menjadi kontingen Bengkulu dalam ajang Pekan Seni Mahasiswa Nasional, dan dengan cerpen berjudul Tato-Tato Penghapus Dosa berhasil membawa pulang medali perunggu.
