When I donate, where does the money go?

Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is run by an Indonesian not-for-profit organisation, which means we never make a profit from your ticket purchases or donations. Everything goes back into putting on the Festival you love.

We invite you to help us write our next chapter by donating to our Christmas festival fund, as we aim to raise 10,000,000 IDR by 15 January 2026. The proceeds will go towards:

Bringing world-class authors to Ubud for the Festival in October
Sending visiting authors to local schools across Bali
Developing our 2026 emerging writers’ programme
Bringing authors to remote areas of Indonesia through our satellite programmes
Giving opportunities for Indonesian writers to participate in other international festivals outside Indonesia
Helping to distribute books from Indonesian publishers to libraries and schools in remote areas
Translating more Indonesian literature into English
Conducting moderator workshops to develop and refresh skills locally
Organising year-round community events to continue cultivating the love for reading, arts, and culture beyond the Festival

What payment options are available when donating online?

Generally, donations can be made in three currencies: Australian dollars (AUD), US dollars (USD), or Indonesian rupiah (IDR).

International supporters can donate online via our donation platform using Visa or MasterCard credit cards through PayPal. Supporters in Australia may also donate via our Myriad Australia page; donations made through Myriad Australia are tax-deductible for Australian taxpayers, subject to the usual ATO requirements.

Indonesian supporters can donate using local credit or debit cards, as well as alternative payment methods such as ATM or internet banking transfers, BNI Virtual Account, GoPay, and more.
