Andrea Nirmala Widjajanto is an Indonesian writer/director currently residing in Toronto, Canada. Her works explore genre films as a medium to depict the current conditions surrounding political, social, and cultural issues. Her previous short SRIKANDI, a fantasy drama inspired by an Indonesian myth of the same name, which she wrote and directed as part of the annual Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon, clinched the Best Film Award in 2020. It went on to premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival: Asia, before screening at the Vancouver International Film Festival. Her latest short, BAWANG MERAH BAWANG PUTIH, screened at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival: Asia, San Diego Asian Film Festival, Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival, and Bangkok Asian Film Festival 2023, and was the recipient of the Get Reel Film Fest Scholarship. Andrea has wrapped post-production for her upcoming short film SAWO MATANG, which was a grant recipient of the 2021 NFTTY Pitch Competition and produced by her company Pidgin Productions in co-production with Inteamates and SINEMA 5. The film is currently ready for distribution.
