Sara M. Saleh is a writer, human rights lawyer, and the daughter of Palestinian, Lebanese, and Egyptian migrants. Songs for the Dead and Living, which was shortlisted for the 2024 NSW Premier’s Awards, and The Flirtation of Girls/Ghazal el-Banat are her first novel and collection, respectively. She co-edited the groundbreaking 2019 anthology Arab, Australian, Other: Stories on Race and Identity. Her first poetry collection, The Flirtation of Girls/Ghazal el-Banat, was shortlisted for the Mary Gilmore Award and longlisted for the ALS Gold Medal in 2024. Her poems, short stories, and essays have been widely published in English and Arabic, appearing in journals such as the Australian Poetry Journal, Overland, Meanjin, Cordite Poetry Review, and Red Room, as well as in several anthologies.
