Shamma Al Bastaki is an Emirati writer and poet from Dubai, where her poetry collection Al-Majaz: A Crossing won the Best Thesis Prize. She earned her BA in Literature and Creative Writing from NYU Abu Dhabi, where her work House to House: لبيت بيت received the ADMAF Creativity Award in 2019. Her writing has appeared in Asymptote, the Harvard Graduate Review, and other publications. Shamma has collaborated with the Louvre Abu Dhabi, was a Salama Bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellow, and co-founded JARA Collective. She has been featured at events such as the Natural History Museum in London and Cop28. Bastaki holds an MA in Regional Studies–Middle East from Harvard University.
