Step into the grandeur of Majapahit with GAYATRI, the first in a three-part historical opera by Indonesian artist mhyajo, inspired by Mpu Prapanca’s Nagarakretagama, recognised by UNESCO as a Memory of the World. The film follows Princess Gayatri’s youthful dreams, her resolve to honour her father’s legacy, and her role in safeguarding Majapahit’s survival. With music by ethnomusicologist Franki Raden, this Javanese narrative has won international acclaim—Second Runner-Up Best Production at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024, Highly Commended at the Asian Arts Awards 2021, and OnComm finalist in 2022. The screening will be followed by a Director’s Talk with mhyajo.
