
Shinta Oktania Retnani is an Indonesian film producer and director, with a focus on ethnographic and documentary filmmaking. Shinta runs Asa Film, a production company based in Ubud, and has done so for the past ten years. She began her career as a field producer and has since produced and directed films for both Indonesian and international audiences. Her six-part series on Indonesia’s textile arts and cultural survival was acquired by Off The Fence. Recently completing her Master’s degree in Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester, Shinta’s dissertation film, One More Cup of Coffee for Ambe, has been selected for several prestigious festivals, including the Margaret Mead Film Festival in New York. It won the Special Jury Prize for Ethnographic Representation at the OKO Ethnographic Film Festival and is currently nominated for the Grierson Awards for Best Student Documentary, with winners to be announced in mid-November. Her latest project, now in post-production, follows the Orang Rimba of Sumatra and their fight to protect their ancestral forests from palm oil encroachment.
Shinta Oktania Retnani adalah produser dan sutradara film Indonesia yang berfokus pada film etnografi dan dokumenter. Ia telah mengelola Asa Film, sebuah rumah produksi berbasis di Ubud, selama sepuluh tahun terakhir. Kariernya dimulai sebagai produser lapangan, sebelum kemudian memproduksi dan menyutradarai film untuk penonton di Indonesia maupun internasional.
